What is Data Leakage?

Data Leakage is defined as the transmission of an organisations’ internal data to an external unauthorised destination. Data leakage can either be unintentional, through poor cybersecurity implementation or intentional, which is when a malicious insider from within the organisation actively causes the leakage.

Data Leakage can be prevented by using tools, software, and strategies known as DLP (Data Leakage Prevention) tools.
