Why have one screen on your phone when you could have three?

Microsoft is reportedly working on a foldable smartphone with three displays and two hinges. It’d be an interesting evolution of the foldable display experience, but it’s not clear whether the device will ever see the light of day.

The device wouldn’t be too dissimilar from Microsoft’s current Surface Duo. They are essentially adding a third panel connected to one of the screens by a second hinge, giving users more screen real estate without making it too large when folded.

But it looks like the phone will be pretty thick and heavy, and it doesn’t seem like it’ll be the most comfortable thing to hold all day. And we’re not too sure how it’ll fit in your pockets!

All impracticalities aside, Microsoft’s new phone would have some benefits. After all, who wouldn’t want a 10-inch (or bigger) phone that’s as easy to open as your wallet?

Whilst it’s a good idea to be cautious about concepts outlines in patients, enough of the big players are toying with the multi-screen phones to suggest one could be on its way to the market.
