Nowadays, there’s a front-facing camera built into almost every device. Your mobile phone, laptop, iPad will most likely all have one. A great feature, right?
But aren’t you ever concerned someone is watching you?
Unfortunately, it’s not unheard of for someone to access your camera without your knowledge and watch you remotely.
There is cause for concern, but do not panic as there are steps you can take to minimise the odds of someone spying on you. Here’s how:
Unplug Or Cover Up Your Webcam
If you use an external; webcam, only connect it when you need it. When it’s not in use, simply unplug it. It may seem a nuisance, but at least it gives you peace of mind that nobody is able to spy on you.
However, most computers have a built-in camera. In this case, use a small lens cover that can conceal your webcam when you’re not using it. Avoid using tape as this can leave a sticky residue on the lens. You can buy mini covers that can be placed over your laptop’s camera from places such as Amazon for a small amount.
Anti-Malware Software And Strong Passwords
If your devices has a built-in camera, ensure you have strong security software installed. A strong security suite will include antivirus, anti-spyware, a firewall and other tools to keep hackers from accessing your device.
Be sure your wireless network has strong security settings and a good password (not the default one that came with the router) to prevent outsiders from accessing your Wi-Fi network without your consent.
