When will it end?

Really!, what’s the point? Hackers, or known nowadays as ‘Hacktivists’ are starting to become the main cause of Internet attacks that knocks websites offline by overloading their site with data, suggests a recent report provided by Arbor Networks. The report shows a list of DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks from the last ten years. Arbor say that it’s so easy to perform one of these attacks that’s it’s been made a favourite for groups with a grudge. Also mentioned in the report is insecure home routers we being enrolled into larger groups of devices which mounted the DDoS Attacks. Groups such as Anonymous and Lizard Squad are able to launch devestating attacks against large corporations and major targets using botnets of hijacked computers and routers. However companies are becoming better at identifying these types of Cyberattacks, but prove to be hugely inconvenient when the attacks succeed. “There’s been a massive jump in the number of very large attacks going on out there” – Darren Anstee, Senior Analyst at Arbor Networks. He also told the BBC “In 2014 we saw more volumetric attacks, with attackers trying to knock people offline by saturating their access to the Internet”. Have your say in the comments below and let us know what you think of these...

Attention: Windows 7 Users!

Mainstream Support for Windows 7 ends today! The day that most of us have been dreading; the end of mainstream support… Starting today Microsoft will stop rolling out new features, put an end to any updates not related to security and are ending free support for it’s 6-year old operating system! But don’t worry yet – All Windows 7 Users (56% of Desktop Users) that are still running Windows 7 can expect Microsoft’s ‘extended support’ until 2020. The standalone software for Windows 7 was taken off the shelves in October 2013 and Windows 7 consumer PC’s stopped being manufactured in October 2014. Do not follow what other companies are saying when it is following Windows XP ‘into the graveyard’ because it isn’t and won’t for 5 years… If you are a Windows 7 user, you will still receive very important security patches during the extended support which means that whilst there are no updates for Windows 7 – you’re system will remain safe and stable and won’t be open to any security attacks from the web. Still not sure on how this works?… You can check out Microsoft’s Support Lifecycle for Windows If you have any questions, please contact us: contact@brokenstones.net or 01543 241 210 and speak to...

All aboard the number 2!

The A4 bus service from Bristol to Bath runs on human droppings and food waste. This is the first ever “bio-bus” in the UK to be powered by biomethane gas, which is made up through the treatment of sewage. A full tank of this ‘gas’ can do 186miles whilst producing up to 30% fewer emissions than buses running on diesel. GENeco say that the amount of leavings one person can produce in a year will power the bus for up to 37 miles The special gas is generated from sewage using bacteria which breaks down bio-waste into methane and carbon dioxide. During the proceess all impurities are removed to produce odour-free emmissions. The gas is produced at a Bristol Sewage Treatment works in Avonmouth, which is run by GENeco, a subsidairy of Wessex Water.     So next time your sitting down, doing your business – Think that it’s you that’s powering the...

He’s gone barking mad!

A farmer from East Sussex has spent £2000 on an unique conversion of his family Peugot estate car.   After the family’s old sheep dog ‘Floss’ sadly passed away, Dave Isaacs decided to invest £2000 of his own money to build a memorial for the whole family to enjoy… Floss (The Car) can reach speed upto 40mph due to the weight of the vehicle. The car has also been found to be rather good at herding sheep with the headlights for eyes and the exhaust acting as the tail of Floss. Mr Isaacs said: “Sheep aren’t known for their intelligence and they didnt seem to notice the difference so they were quite happy”. As good as the story, due to their being little space in the barn on Mr Isaacs 180 acre farm – He has resulted into selling his beloved ‘Floss’ on eBay.   “As long as she goes to a good home i’ll be happy”…     Don’t get telling Chris about this barking mad stunt… God only knows what he may do to his BMW, and...
